HC Deb 29 April 1903 vol 121 cc793-4
MR. WILLIAM REDMOND

I beg to ask the Chief Secretary to the Lord Lieutenant of Ireland, whether his attention has been called to an attack on Easter Monday evening in the town of Magherafelt on a cordon of police on duty there by processionists armed with swords; and whether, seeing that some of the police were injured, and were again stoned at the town hall, he will state whether any, and if so what, steps are being taken to restore order in this locality.

THE ATTORNEY-GENERAL FOR IRELAND (Mr. ATKINSON, Londonderry, N.)

I stated on Monday last † that proceedings had been instituted by the Crown against a number of persons for participating in the occurrences on this occasion. This being so, I must respectfully decline to discuss at the present stage the conduct either of the police or the mob. There has been no repetition of disturbance at Magherafelt since the date mentioned.
