HC Deb 27 April 1903 vol 121 c478
MR. JOYCE (Limerick)

I beg to ask the President of the Board of Trade whether he will cause an inquiry to be made into the desirability of appointing a Board of Trade official at Limerick to look after and protect seamen arriving at and being paid off at that port.

MR. GERALD BALFOUR

There are already two officers at Limerick who hold appointments under the Board of Trade as superintendent and deputy-superintendent respectively and whose duty it is to attend to the interests of seamen who are paid off there. As only nine vessels discharged their crews at Limerick last year it does not appear to be necessary to appoint an additional officer.
