MR. KEIR HARDIE (Merthyr Tydvil)

To ask the President of the Board of Trade whether he is aware that ceiling laths are imported from Sweden as raw material; and whether he will take steps to place these articles, as is done in the case of doors, windows, or mouldings, within the provisions of the Merchandise Marks Act.

(Answered by Mr. Ritchie.) There is no record of the importation of ceiling laths from Sweden as raw material, as they are classified under the head of "wood, sawn or split, planed or dressed." Like imported doors, windows, and mouldings, they are subject to detention under the Merchandise Marks Act, 1887, when bearing objectionable marks.
