HC Deb 06 April 1903 vol 120 cc1115-6
MR. HERBERT ROBERTS (Denbighshire, W.)

I beg to ask the President of the Board of Agriculture whether he is in a position to inform the House whether the question of railway rates is receiving his consideration; and whether he proposes at an early date to make a public statement upon this subject so far as it relates to the agricultural interests of the country.

THE PRESIDENT OF THE BOARD OF AGRICULTURE (Mr. HANBURY, Preston)

The question of railway rates is, in my opinion, one of first-class importance to agriculturists, and I hope, as soon as I have completed inquiries which are now going on, to put myself into communication with the railway companies on the subject of the rates charged for home agricultural produce. As the hon. Member is probably aware, there is shortly to be a conference on this question in Wales which I hope to be able to attend.

MR. HERBERT ROBERTS

It may be for the convenience of the House if I now state that in consequence of the assurance given by the right hon. Gentleman it is not my intention to move the Motion standing in my name for tomorrow evening.
