HC Deb 02 April 1903 vol 120 c900
MR. O'MALLEY (Galway, Connemara)

To ask the Chief Secretary to the Lord Lieutenant of Ireland whether his attention has been directed to the fact that county secretaries entrusted with the preparation of the jurors' list, under Section 83 (7) of the Local Government (Ireland) Act, 1898, have charged an initial fee of £10 for each rural district in their county, and that in the case of unions overlapping two or three counties, this expense has increased from £10 per union heretofore to £30 per union in the case of a union overlapping three counties, and to £20 per union in the case of a union overlapping two counties; and whether, in view of the Resolutions passed by the Boards of Guardians last year on the subject, he will consider the advisability of repealing this Sub-section.

(Answered by Mr. Wyndham.) I am not aware whether the practice is as stated in the Question. The scale of remuneration is fixed by an Order issued by the Lord-Lieutenant in Council. If any alteration in the scale is considered necessary it can be effected by an amendment of the Order in Council, without legislation.
