HC Deb 01 April 1903 vol 120 c786
MR. CHARLES HOBHOUSE (Bristol, E.)

I beg to ask the Secretary of State for War what are the standards of height, weight, and chest measurement for Infantry of the Line, and when were these standards laid down.

THE FINANCIAL SECRETARY TO THE WAR OFFICE (Lord STANLEY,) Lancashire, Westhoughton

The respective standards are laid down in the instructions issued with Army Orders, January, 1903. These standards practically came into force in April, 1902, but were not confirmed until the end of the year. They are too lengthy to read out in detail, but I have forwarded a copy to the hon. Member.
