To ask the Chief Secretary to the Lord Lieutenant of Ireland, in reference to the five county prisons at Carrick-on-Shannon, Enniskillen, Mullingar, Omagh, and Wicklow, which have recently been closed, whether he can say: to what use will the buildings be now applied; whose projjerty are they now, and in whose custody will they remain; and will the Government consider the; advisability of handing them over to the Agricultural and Technical Department, with a view to be utilised in the development of Irish industries.

(Answered by Mr. Wyndham.) The five prisons are being used as places of detention for prisoners awaiting trial at assizes and quarter sessions. So long as they continue to be used for public purposes the property in, and control over, the buildings remain vested in the General Prisons Board.
