HC Deb 24 October 1902 vol 113 c728
MR. BIGNOLD (Wick Burghs)

To ask the Secretary of State for War whether, in view of the fact that the 2nd battalion Seaforth Highlanders has only had a station in Scotland for one year in the last twenty-four years, he will consent to the battalion being quartered in Scotland on its return home; and will he say when the 2nd battalion of the Seaforths may be expected to leave South Africa.

(Answered by Mr. Secretary Brodrick.) It is not possible to say at present when this battalion will return home, and as the infantry barracks in Scotland will be filled by three other Scotch battalions returning from South Africa by the 26th instant, no barracks will be available for the Seaforth Highlanders. I must point out to my hon. friend that of the twenty-four years referred to, twenty-two have been spent by the battalion on foreign service.
