HC Deb 20 October 1902 vol 113 c222
SIR SEYMOUR KING

To ask the First Lord of the Treasury, whether it is proposed to declare 25th October a Bank Holiday, at least so far as London is concerned.

(Answered by Mr. A. J. Balfour.) Yes, so far as London is concerned, there will be a Bank Holiday on Saturday next. It is correctly stated in a public announcement today that the proclamation is solely intended for the necessities of bankers' business arising out of the probable congestion in the streets along the route of the Royal progress, and will not affect the shop-keeping community at large nor enjoin a general suspension of employment.
