HC Deb 20 October 1902 vol 113 c209
MR. JOYCE (Limerick)

To ask the Chief Secretary to the Lord Lieutenant of Ireland, whether he is aware that notices, calling a meeting of the citizens of Limerick on the 8th of September last, to welcome Mr. P. J. Linnane, J.P., and Mr. O'Sulivan on their release from Limerick Jail, after serving a term of three months imprisonment under the Criminal Law and Procedure (Ireland) Act, were torn down and defaced by the police; and will he state by whose authority did the police act.

(Answered by Mr. Wyndham.) The notices were removed by the police in the belief that they were of an illegal character. The police acted in error, and were so informed. Full instructions on the point have since been issued to the force.
