HC Deb 28 November 1902 vol 115 c749
LORD CHARLES BERESFORD () WoolWich

To ask the Secretary of State for War whether any poor law unions of the United Kingdom have drawn his attention to the proposal to pay Army pensions weekly instead of quarterly as is at present the case, and urged on him that it would be to the interest of pensioners that Army pensions should be so paid; and whether he will consider the advisability of adopting this change.

(Answered by Mr. Secretary Brodrick.) This question has been frequently considered and fully answered in the House. The great majority of pensioners prefer the present system, and, as it is extremely doubtful whether the change proposed would be advantageous, there appear to be no sound reasons for adopting the course proposed in recent communications from certain poor law unions.
