MR. ARTHUR LEE

To ask the Secretary of State for War whether the physical standards for recruits enlisted for the Regular and Militia forces have been raised since the introduction of the higher rates of pay; and, if so, in what particulars. † Exclusive of 964 re-enlisted under Army Orders 106 of 1900 and 59 of 1901. (Answered by Mr. Secretary Brodrick.) The higher rates of pay have not yet come fully into force. The standard of height has been raised in the case of the Hussars from a minimum of 5 feet 2 inches to 5 feet 4 inches. All other physical standards for recruits remain unchanged.
