§ MR. T. M. HEALYI beg to ask the Chief Secretary to the Lord Lieutenant of Ireland whether the proposed increase in the Belfast police force will be made before July, and when it takes place will men who have previously served in Belfast be selected where possible.
§ THE CHIEF SECRETARY FOR IRELAND (Mr. WYNDHAM,) DoverIt has not yet been definitely decided to what extent the Belfast police force is to be increased, nor has a date been fixed for the appointment of additional constables. The most suitable men will be selected. Familiarity with the conditions of a large city like Belfast is an element to be considered in making such a selection.
§ MR. T. M. HEALYHave not the local authorities strongly recommended an immediate increase of the force?
§ MR. WYNDHAMThe increase is contemplated, but the extent and date I am not prepared to announce.
