HC Deb 13 May 1902 vol 108 cc24-5
MR. WEIR

To ask the President of the Board of Trade, having regard to the fact that a Committee was appointed in 1899 to consider applications for monetary grants in aid of harbours, and that the conditions under which such applications can be received have hitherto prevented grants being made to either of the crofting counties, will he state the number of applications received for grants in aid of harbours in Scotland, and in how many instances the Committee have recommended the Treasury to render assistance, and the amount of assistance thus rendered.

(Answer.) Ten applications for grants in aid of harbours in Scotland have been received and considered by the Committee. In two cases the Committee found that the conditions had been complied with. Sanction has been given by the Treasury, in accordance with the recommendations of the Committee, to a grant of £15,000 for Craigenroan Harbour, and to a grant of £1,500 for Portknockie Harbour.—(Board of Trade.)
