HC Deb 12 May 1902 vol 107 c1340
MR. WEIR

To ask the Lord Advocate, whether the Secretary for Scotland is aware that the Fishery Board cruiser "Vigilant" was recently engaged in conveying the Congested Districts Board engineer to various parts of the Western Highlands for the purpose of inspecting works under construction by the Board; and in view of the fact that illegal trawling is carried on, will arrangements be made for the "Vigilant" to be employed exclusively on duties for which she was purchased, viz., the protection of the interests of line fishermen against illegal trawling.

(Answer.) I am informed by the Fishery Board that the hon. Member is inaccurate in stating that the Fishery cruiser "Vigilant" was recently engaged in conveying the Congested Districts Board engineer to various parts of the Western Highlands for the purposes of inspecting work under construction by the Board. The engineer simply got a passage on board the "Vigilant" whilst she was engaged in her ordinary fishery duties.—(Scottish Office.)
