§ SIR EDWARD SASSOON (Hythe)I beg to ask Mr. Chancellor of the Exchequer, whether co-operative societies, wholesale and retail, which supply the public in the same way as ordinary tradesmen, are exempted from the payment of income tax; and, if so, whether he will introduce legislation by which they may be brought under contribution to the Imperial Revenue.
§ SIR M. HICKS BEACHThere is a great deal of misapprehension on this subject. I will show the hon. Member a statement of the law, which will make it clear to him that these societies are not exempt from Income Tax. There is, in my opinion, no reason for legislation.
