HC Deb 17 March 1902 vol 105 c167
MR. STEVENSON

I beg to ask the Under Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs whether he can say when he will lay upon the Table the Reports of Prince George of Greece, High Commissioner of Crete, on the administration of that island for 1899, 1900, and 1901; and whether His Majesty's Government, having regard to the tranquillity now prevailing throughout Crete, will propose to the other protecting Powers the desirability of withdrawing the international garrisons at Canea, Candia, and Retimo, and allowing the small military force required in the island to be drawn from the Greek Army, with the concurrence of His Majesty the King of the Hellenes.

LORD CRANBORNE

It would not be expedient at present to publish the communications which have passed between His Royal Highness and the Powers. His Majesty's Government are not prepared to propose the course suggested in the latter part of the Question, nor is it likely that the other Powers concerned would agree to it.
