HC Deb 13 March 1902 vol 104 c1277
MR. TREVELYAN

On behalf of the hon. Member for Dewsbury, I beg to ask the Secretary of State for War whether he will state the amount spent on behalf of the War Office in 1899–1900 on the purchase of the leasehold interest of two houses, Nos. 77 and 78, Pall Mall; and what sums have since been spent on alterations and adaptations for the use of the War Office.

THE FIRST COMMISSIONER OF WORKS (Mr. AKERS DOUGLAS,) Kent, St. Augustine's

The leasehold interest of these houses was purchased for £6,000. The premises, however, were not assigned to the War Office, as was at first proposed, as they were transferred to Her late Majesty as a Grace and Favour Residence, in exchange for Bushey House, appropriated for the National Physical Laboratory.
