HC Deb 13 March 1902 vol 104 cc1264-5
MR. HERBERT ROBERTS

I beg to ask the Secretary of State for India whether he will state what was the cost of the site and erection of Cooper's Hill College; what portion of that cost was borne by India; and what is the total expense borne by India in connection with the college from its foundation to the present time.

LORD G. HAMILTON

The cost of the site of Cooper's Hill College, acquired in the year 1871, together with that of all subsequent additions to the buildings then existing, was £143,760, all of which was borne by Indian revenues. Besides this, the excess of expenditure over receipts in the thirty years 1871–1901 amounted altogether to £48,288. The total expenditure borne by India in connection with the College is consequently £192,048.
