MR. HERBERT ROBERTSI beg to ask the Secretary of State for India whether he will state what was the cost of the site and erection of Cooper's Hill College; what portion of that cost was borne by India; and what is the total expense borne by India in connection with the college from its foundation to the present time.
§ LORD G. HAMILTONThe cost of the site of Cooper's Hill College, acquired in the year 1871, together with that of all subsequent additions to the buildings then existing, was £143,760, all of which was borne by Indian revenues. Besides this, the excess of expenditure over receipts in the thirty years 1871–1901 1265 amounted altogether to £48,288. The total expenditure borne by India in connection with the College is consequently £192,048.
