MANSFIELDI beg to ask the Secretary of State for War whether he can state what districts in England have been visited during February for the purchase of horses for Africa, and what quantities have been purchased, and why no horses were bought in the Spalding district when recently visited by the War Office buyers.
LORD STANLEYForty-seven places in England were visited by purchasing officers in February, and 1,906 horses were purchased. An officer visited Spalding, but found the horses shown there to be unsuitable for Army purposes in South Africa.
