§ MR. SCHWANN (Manchester, N.)I beg to ask the Secretary of State for War whether his attention has been drawn to the fact that, in June last, Mrs. Rousseau, the wife of the Dutch clergyman at Pietermaritzburg, was deported from Graaff Reinet, in the Cape Colony, to Port Alfred, and that the same punishment was inflicted on Mrs. de Klerk; whether both ladies are British subjects; whether he can state upon what grounds they have been detained at Port Alfred ever since; and whether he will consider the advisability of allowing them to return to their homes.
§ MR. BRODRICKI have no information on this matter.
§ MR. SCHWANNWill the right hon. Gentleman telegraph to find out?
§ MR. BRODRICKI can add nothing to the answer I have given the hon. Gentleman.
