HC Deb 07 March 1902 vol 104 cc712-3
CAPTAIN NORTON (Newington, W.)

I beg to ask the Secretary of State for War whether his attention has been called to the fact that a body of Yeomanry 150 strong, which had been captured upon three occasions, is encamped On the hills in the neighbourhood of Ficksburg, the military authorities refusing to re-arm them in consequence of their behaviour; whether these men are paid at the rate of 5s. a day; and can he state how he proposes to deal with them.

MR. BRODRICK

Lord Kitchener informs me that the statement is absolutely untrue. He adds that he does not keep useless men in South Africa. I shall be glad if the hon. Member could give me the materials on which he based this allegation.
