HC Deb 04 March 1902 vol 104 c398

With the reform of the medical service is connected the reform of the nursing service, and in this respect we have the advantage of the actual and practical assistance of the president of the new nursing service—Her Majesty the Queen. I attach very great importance to that assistance, not merely from the fact of the exalted position of Her Majesty, but because Her Majesty has a practical knowledge and personal acquaintance with nursing such as is enjoyed by few women in the Kingdom. I believe that in selecting nurses for Army service, the Board we are about to form will be as efficient as can be obtained by uniting the civil and the military services.
