HC Deb 04 March 1902 vol 104 cc359-60
MR. FIELD

I beg to ask the Secretary to the Treasury, as representing the Postmaster General, whether he is aware that in many foreign legislatures the Members enjoy the privilege of free postage; and whether the authorities will consider the advisability of allowing Members free postage whilst performing their duties in this House.

MR. AUSTEN CHAMBERLAIN

The privilege of franking letters was withdrawn from Members of the Legislature in this country by Act of Parliament, and the Postmaster General is not prepared to recommend legislation on the subject.
