§ THE FINANCIAL SECRETARY TO THE WAR OFFICE (Lord STANLEY, Lancashire, Westhoughton)The total numbers of horses and mules carried to South Africa since 1st January, 1898, in ships chartered by Messrs. Houlder, Brothers, on behalf of the War Office, are 85,549 horses and 300 mules. The total number carried in all has been 293,243 horses and 96,820 mules under contracts made by the War Office.
