I beg to ask the Secretary of State for War whether any measures are to be taken in addition to or similar to those which in India have been taken and announced, to retain with the Colours men of the Army regular forces who would otherwise take their discharge.

There is no intention of taking any such measures. What has been done in India has already drawn considerably on the Reserve. I am sorry that, in replying to a previous Question put by the right hon. Baronet,† the alteration made in the punctuation of the Question as originally minted in the Orders of the Day escaped notice. † See page 690.
