HC Deb 24 June 1902 vol 109 c1512
SIR HOWARD VINCENT (Sheffield, Central)

To ask the President of the Local Government Board if his attention has been called to instances in which motorists, having brought about carriage accidents, have driven away at full speed without affording any opportunity for their identification; and if His Majesty's Government will introduce legislation without delay to compel all motors to bear a conspicuous number, lettered by counties, on their vehicles as in France, the United States, and other countries.

(Answer.) My attention has been called to some instances of the kind referred to by hon. and gallant friend. The question of securing the identification of motor cars is Tinder my consideration, but I cannot undertake to propose legislation on the subject during the present session.—(Local Government Board.)
