To ask the Secretary of State for the Colonies whether his attention has been directed to the fact that Boer burghers while in captivity have sold or mortgaged their farms; and whether steps will be considered by which such sales or mortgages may be set aside on repayment of actual money advanced with 5 per cent. interest.

(Answer.) I am not aware that this is the case. An application made by a syndicate to be allowed to negotiate with prisoners of war in Ceylon for the purchase of their farms has not been acceded to. (Colonial Office.)
