CATHCART WASONTo ask the Secretary of State for the Colonies whether his attention has been directed to the fact that Boer burghers while in captivity have sold or mortgaged their farms; and whether steps will be considered by which such sales or mortgages may be set aside on repayment of actual money advanced with 5 per cent. interest.
(Answer.) I am not aware that this is the case. An application made by a syndicate to be allowed to negotiate with prisoners of war in Ceylon for the purchase of their farms has not been acceded to. (Colonial Office.)
