SWIFT MACNEILL (Donegal, S.)I beg to ask the Secretary of State for the Colonies whether any steps have been taken to fix the sum due to the British Government, as successor to the Government of the South African Republic, in payment of the idemnity of the Jameson Raid which he stated that he was willing to submit to arbitration; and, if he will state what steps he proposes to take with regard to his statement in his despatch to Lord Rosmead, dated 10th April, 1897, that the British South Africa Company would have to make compensation for the Jameson Raid.
