§ SIR HOWARD VINCENT (Sheffield, Central)I beg to ask the Secretary of State for the Home Department if he will consider the desirability of legislation to transfer the Metropolitan Fire Brigade from the control of the London County 840 Council to that of the State, and making it a branch of the Metropolitan Police. Has not such a course been frequently recommended by those having experience?
§ THE SECRETARY OF STATE FOR THE HOME DEPARTMENT (Mr. RITCHIE,) CroydonI am aware that the proposed transfer had been recommended by a Committee of which I was a member some years ago before the constitution of the London County Council, but I do not think that legislation in that direction is now practicable.
