HC Deb 13 June 1902 vol 109 c609
MR. MARSHALL HALL (Lancashire, Southport)

To ask Mr. Attorney General if he will recommend the appointment of official shorthand writers to record all proceedings in the courts of the King's Bench and Chancery Divisions of the High Court of Justice, in conformity with the practice now adopted in the Probate, Divorce, and Admiralty Division.

(Answer.) In many cases the appointment of official shorthand writers might be of great convenience, but for practical purposes shorthand notes are attended with some disadvantages, and in small cases their use might involve an expense out of proportion to the advantage gained. The subject requires careful consideration before any action is taken.—(Mr. Attorney General.)
