HC Deb 12 June 1902 vol 109 c488
MR. JOHN HUTTON (Yorkshire, Richmond)

To ask the Secretary to the Treasury, as representing the Postmaster General, whether he will explain why the news of peace was not telegraphed on the evening of Sunday 1st June to all telegraph offices in the country for the information of the public.

(Answer.) The Postmaster General was not in a position to say beforehand that the news of peace would be received, and he could not therefore make arrangements for carrying out the suggestion of the hon. Member. The number of telegraph offices at which attendance is given on Sunday evenings is relatively very small.—(Post Office.)
