§ MR. MACVEAGH (Down Co., S.)I beg to ask the Chief Secretary to the Lord Lieutenant of Ireland whether he can state how many officers of the Royal Irish Constabulary have been appointed resident magistrates in Ireland since the appointment of the present Government, and how many of them profess the Roman Catholic religion.
§ MR. WYNDHAMThere have been five such appointments since July, 1895. None of the officers appointed are Roman Catholics. Of other persons appointed to the Resident Magistracy in the same period, three are Roman Catholics.
