HC Deb 11 June 1902 vol 109 c353
MR. CREMER (Shoreditch, Haggerston)

To ask the First Commissioner of Works whether ladies occupying seats upon the stands in Palace Yard on the 26th and 27th instant will do so subject to the rational conditions upon which they are to be admitted to the Coronation ceremonies in the Abbey; or, if ladies are permitted to retain their head-dress during the passage of the royal cortège, whether he will make it a condition that the covering of ladies' heads shall be of such limited proportions and so arranged that Members seated behind ladies may have an opportunity of seeing the procession, instead of having their view intercepted by ladies' hats.

(Answer.) No conditions have been laid down as to the costumes of the occupants of the stands, nor would it be within my province to prescribe such regulations. Matters of this kind must, I think, be left to the good feeling of those concerned.—(Office of Works.)
