HC Deb 11 June 1902 vol 109 cc356-7
MR. GEORGE BROWN

To ask the Secretary of State for the Colonies whether he is aware that under the postal regulations of the United States magazines are despatched to Canada as second class matter at lower rates than from this country; and, whether he will bring this subject under the notice of the Postmaster General and the Colonial Conference with a view to securing equal facilities in this country.

(Answer.) I have already been in communication with the Postmaster General on this subject, but I am informed that the financial objections to a reduction in the postage on magazines are very great, and that, as the present rate is uniform throughout the Empire, it is not desirable in the interests of uniformity to make a change in the case of printed matter between this country and Canada.—(Colonial Office.)
