§ MR. J. P. FARRELL (Longford, N.)I beg to ask the Chief Secretary to the Lord Lieutenant of Ireland whether he is aware that on 23rd January last Timothy Brennan was fined £24 for alleged illicit distillation at Ballinamuck petty sessions, and that, as the defendant was a poor man, the presiding magistrates advised him to petition for a reduction of the fine; and, seeing that such petition was signed by several magistrates of County Longford, and in view of Brennan's circumstances, and that he bears a good character, some rebate of the fine will be granted in his case.
§ MR. WYNDHAMThe Commissioners of Inland Revenue decline to mitigate 105 this penalty. Brennan is an old offender, and has twice previously been fined for the same offence.
