§ SIR THOMAS ESMONDE (Wexford, N.)I beg to ask the Chief Secretary to the Lord Lieutenant of Ireland if the Government will take steps to enable the tenants of Trinity College, Dublin, and their sub-tenants to become the owners of their holdings upon equitable terms.
§ THE CHIEF SECRETARY FOR IRELAND (Mr. WYNDHAM,) DoverAlmost all the lands belonging to Trinity College are held under perpetuity leases, by lessees who have sub-let their holdings. The Land Purchase Acts would not apply to these lessees. The question raised by the hon. Baronet is part of the very wide question whether Corporations should be empowered to alienate property held by them in trust. I could not undertake to consider legislation dealing with this matter.
