On behalf of the hon. and learned Member for Dumfries, I beg to ask the Secretary of State for the Colonies whether, in the view of the Government, sentences passed in South Africa upon civilians by Courts Martial are in law effective after the termination of the war.

His Majesty's Government are advised that the sentences referred to by the hon. and learned Member are effective until the termination of martial law.
