HC Deb 29 July 1902 vol 112 cc20-1
MR. J. P. FARRELL

I beg to ask the Chief Secretary to the Lord Lieutenant of Ireland whether he is aware that twenty-two labourers in the Ballymahon Union recently petitioned the Local Government Board to give them the additional half acre allowed under the Labourers Acts; and whether lie can take any steps for holding an independent inquiry in this instance.

MR. WYNDHAM

The petition was referred to the District Council, who informed the Board that it did not consider that any additional half-acre allotments were required at present. No application for a local inquiry has been made to the Board, and in any case the requirements of section 4 of the Labourers Act of 1891. under which such an inquiry could be held, have not been satisfied.

MR. J. P. FARRELL

If independent application is made, will the right hon. Gentleman consider it?

MR. WYNDHAM

It most be made in conformity with the provisions of the Act.
