SIR CHARLES DILKE (Gloucestershire, Forest of Dean)

To ask the Under Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs whether the Chinese Government has appealed to the United States to use its good offices with the six Powers in reference to the proposed conditions for the evacuation of Tientsin; and whether the Government of the Uuited States has made any communication to His Majesty's Government upon the subject.

(Answer.) His Majesty's Government are not aware that the Chinese Government have made such an appeal to the United States Government. The latter have addressed no communication to His Majesty's Government on the subject.—(Foreign Office.)
