HC Deb 31 January 1902 vol 102 c38
MR. J. P. FARRELL

I beg to ask the Chief Secretary to the Lord Lieutenant of Ireland, by what authority the Protestant churchwardens of Mohill took forcible possession of a number of graves belonging to a Roman Catholic family named Reynolds, and also several other Roman Catholic families, and planted same with evergreens in order to prevent future interments there; is he aware that these families had an ancient burial right there and that the cemetery was not closed under the Public Health Act; and will he take steps to remedy the grievance complained of.

MR. WYNDHAM

This is not a matter which comes within the cognizance of the Executive Government, nor has it any power whatever to interfere as suggested in the Question.

MR. WYNDHAM

, in reply to a further Question, suggested that the parties aggrieved should take legal steps to assert their rights, and not engage in a breach of the peace.
