HC Deb 31 January 1902 vol 102 cc40-1
MR. JOHN GORDON (Londonderry, S.)

I beg to ask the Chief Secretary to the Lord Lieutenant of Ireland whether, having regard to the interest taken in Ireland in the Land Purchase Bill mentioned in the Speech from the Throne, he is in a position to state at what time it is proposed to introduce the measure.

MR. WYNDHAM

My right hon. friend the Leader of the House authorises me to say that the Government intends, and expects, to introduce the Irish Land Bill immediately before the Easter recess. It is, however, possible that this expectation may be disappointed. Owing to the early date of Easter it is obligatory to conclude certain financial business by Thursday, 27th March, at latest. Should this frustrate our intention, the Bill will be introduced during the first week after the Easter recess.
