HC Deb 24 January 1902 vol 101 cc790-1
MR. PLATT-HIGGINS (Salford, N.)

I beg to ask the President of the Local Government Board whether in view of the difficulty private practitioners have in obtaining calf lymph as reliable as that issued to public vaccinators, the Local Government Board can make such arrangements that the Government calf lymph maybe obtained by any registered practitioner of medicine for the vaccination of His Majesty's subjects.

THE PRESIDENT OF THE LOCAL GOVERNMENT BOARD (Mr. WALTER LONG,) Bristol, S.

I can only refer to my hon. friend to the answer which I gave yesterday to my hon. friend the Member for North Islington, to the effect that the organisation of the Lymph Establishment is not such as would enable me to furnish lymph to private medical practitioners.

MR. BARTLEY (Islington, N.)

Is it not possible to enlarge the establishment?

MR. WALTER LONG

It has been nearly doubled within the last few weeks, and it is impossible at present to supply all the lymph required for primary vaccination. To supply private practitioners would tax the resources of the establishment beyond its power. We are doing all we possibly can, and if we can go further we will do so.
