HC Deb 21 January 1902 vol 101 cc457-8
MR. THOMAS BAYLEY (Derbyshire, Chesterfield)

I beg to ask the Secretary of State for War, whether he can state the number of natives employed by the War Office in South Africa; what are the terms of payment; and how many of them are armed, and with what class of weapons.

LORD STANLEY

As the House has been informed on a previous occasion, it is not possible to keep any record of such employment. The pay would vary with the locality and the nature of their employment.
