HC Deb 21 January 1902 vol 101 cc468-9
MR. J. P. FARRELL (Longford, N.)

I beg to ask the Chief Secretary to the Lord Lieutenant of Ireland, whether he has received a copy of a resolution adopted by the Longford County Council requesting that asylum charges in Ireland will be paid in full out of the Imperial funds, and not, as at present, out of the local rates; and can he hold out any hope that the resolution will receive favourable consideration.

THE CHIEF SECRETARY FOR IRELAND (Mr. WYNDHAM,) Dover

This question was embraced, with many others, in the wide terms of the reference to the Royal Commission on Local Taxation. Their Report, in respect of England and Wales has recently been presented to Parliament. Pending the publication of the Report in respect of Ireland, I feel debarred from expressing an opinion on this important subject.

MR. J. P. FARRELL

Can the right hon. Gentleman say when the Report will be published?

MR. WYNDHAM

It is not in my Department, but I understand it is being pressed forward.
