HC Deb 20 January 1902 vol 101 c313
SIR JOHN BRUNNER (Cheshire, Northwich)

I beg to ask the President of the Local Government Board, whether he can state how many District Councils have asked for and how many have obtained the power given to Parish Councils by section 8 of the Local Government Act, 1894, to accept and hold any gifts of property, real or personal, for the benefit of the inhabitants of the parish or any part thereof.

THE PRESIDENT OF THE LOCAL GOVERNMENT BOARD (Mr. WALTER LONG,) Bristol, S.

The power referred to in the Question has been conferred on 22 Town Councils and 108 Urban District Councils. I am not aware of any instance in which an application for the power has been refused.
