HC Deb 20 January 1902 vol 101 c306
MR. WILLIAM ALLAN (Gateshead)

I beg to ask the Secretary to the Admiralty, whether he can state when the Boiler Committee's Report on the "Minerva" and "Hyacinth" trials will be published; what arrangement, type, or design of boiler is to be fitted into the new battleships and cruisers; and for what sum the boilers taken out of the "Medea" and "Medusa," respectively have been sold.

THE SECRETARY TO THE ADMIRALTY) MR. ARNOLD-FORSTER,) Belfast, W.

It is proposed to publish the further report on the trial of H.M. S. "Minerva" and "Hyacinth" at an early date. In reply to the second part of the Hon. Member's question I have to say that it is proposed to fit two of the new battleships with the Babcock & Wilcox boiler, and that one of the battleships will be fitted with the combination of 2/5ths cylindrical and 3/5ths Babcock & Wilcox boilers. The types of boilers to be fitted in the respective cruisers has not yet been determined. In answer to the third part of the hon. Member's question I have to say that the boilers of the "Medea" have not yet been sold. Those of the "Medusa" have been sold for £304.
