HC Deb 17 January 1902 vol 101 cc175-6
EARL PERCY

I beg to ask the Under Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs whether the post of British Consul at Konia is still vacant; whether His Majesty's Government intend that it shall remain so; and whether, having regard to the present condition and the prospective interests of British trade in the event of the construction of a Euphrates Valley Railway, the Government have decided that the expenditure involved in the maintenance at that centre of a Consular representative shall be incurred. See Page 130.

* LORD CRANBORNE

There is at present no Consular representative of this country at Konia. The re-appointment of a Consul to this post is under consideration. But the circumstances which will arise in the event of the completion of the Euphrates Valley Railway do not seem to require immediate consideration.
