§ MR. MANSFIELD (Lincolnshire, Spalding)I beg to ask the Secretary of State for War whether he can give the total quantity of German potatoes sent to Africa for the use of our troops up to the present date, and whether any contracts for foreign potatoes are uncompleted; and, if so, for what quantities.
LORD STANLEYNo German potatoes have been sent to South Africa by the War Office. Local orders given in the past by the military authorities in South Africa have led to the supply of some foreign potatoes, but such orders have ceased. There is, therefore, no reason to suppose that there are any quantities of foreign potatoes still to be delivered.
