HC Deb 07 February 1902 vol 102 c665
MR. WHITMORE (Chelsea)

I beg to ask the Secretary of State for War, whether the Commissioners of the Royal Hospital, Chelsea, are converting into a cricket and football ground a portion of its park which has hitherto been open for the free use of the public; and, if so, whether he can state for whose benefit this conversion is being made, and on what conditions and for what team this open space is being so appropriated.

MR. BRODRICK

The public are not being deprived of the use of this ground; permission has, however, been given to the soldiers and others employed at the War Office and its subordinate establishments to play Cricket, etc., thereon under conditions similar to those granted to Cricket Clubs in Battersea and other London Parks. The ground will not be used for football.
